ORCA's Citizen Science Program Continues to Educate, Engage

The Ocean Research and Conservation Association (“ORCA”) has a mission to protect and restore aquatic ecosystems and the species they sustain through the development of innovative technologies, science-based conservation action, and community education and outreach.

Over the past decade, Indian River Community Foundation (“Community Foundation”) has distributed over $529,000 from the Community Enrichment Fund and $405,240 from client funds to programs at ORCA such as Ranking Muck Inputs into the IRL in IRC and Reclaiming Our Indian River Lagoon. The most recent program funded by Community Foundation is TeamORCA: Citizen Science Leadership Project. This program teaches science and leadership skills to high school students as they create a scientifically sound monitoring data set of the Indian River Lagoon.
