Endowment Partner Spotlight: Literacy Services of Indian River County

Literacy Services of Indian River County believes empowering adults with literacy and English language skills is the key to building a stronger, more vibrant community. For over 50 years, the organization's dedicated volunteer tutors have helped hundreds of adults in Indian River County achieve their personal and professional goals.

Literacy Services has recently started the Family Literacy Project in Fellsmere. This project is designed to empower not only students but also their entire families. A parent's ability to read and navigate the educational system has a direct impact on their child's success. The Family Literacy Project is dedicated to creating a supportive learning environment that equips parents with the tools they need to engage with their children's education and build a foundation for a lifetime of learning. Along with program staff, the Family Literacy Specialist plays a vital role, directly supporting 43 parents, guardians, and their children. The Family Literacy Project enhances family engagement and literacy skills, empowering parents with the confidence and knowledge to support their children's effective development.

Literacy Services is also a part of our Endowment Partners Program (EPP).  The purpose of the EPP is to help local charities plan for their long-term sustainability by growing a permanent endowment fund. During a 12-month program, participants learn about endowments, planned giving, investment management and marketing solutions that inspire loyal donors to make planned gifts from their estates. The program is coordinated by IRCF team member Yamilet Cendejas.
