IRCF Awards A Caring Center for Women $50,000
A Caring Center for Women loves and serves all women at no charge with comprehensive health services including pregnancy and wellness care. Indian River Community Foundation recently awarded A Caring Center for Women $50,000 to support their Medical Center expansion.
The demand for OB/GYN healthcare far outweighs the supply of providers in Indian River County, especially for uninsured and underserved individuals. These individuals must either travel for care or postpone their prenatal visits and wellness exams, which often leads them to rely on the ER to address any health concerns that arise.
A Caring Center for Women has partnered with Cleveland Clinic to allow more timely, easier access to women's wellness services and early prenatal care by providing these services at the Center. The organization has recently expanded their Medical Center, which provides free pre-natal and wellness exams. By expanding into the remaining unit of their building, A Caring Center for Women has opened the door to more underserved women who are in dire need of obstetrical and gynecological medical services.
For over a decade, this pregnancy resource center has been a lifeline for underserved women, offering free pregnancy tests, counseling and referrals, ultrasounds, parenting education, and material assistance. In 2023, A Caring Center for Women served over 900 clients, many of whom struggled to access early prenatal care before 16-20 weeks and well woman exams due to the shortage of local healthcare providers.
Indian River Community Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking is aligned with a vision of a more healthy, prosperous, and generous Indian River County community. Grantmaking priorities are informed by the findings of the most recent community needs assessment and the most current data and information collected on Indian River Indicators. Grants from the Community Enrichment fund are reviewed by a Grants Committee comprised of volunteers Suzanne Bertman, Pat Brier, Toni Hamner, Wanda Lincoln, Dawn Michael, and Angelia Perry.
IRCF is holding informational sessions for nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations serving Indian River County who are interested in applying for a competitive grant. If interested, please call 772.492.1407 or email Brooke Sauserman to reserve your spot. Please read our Guidelines before registering.
