Senior Resource Association (SRA) promotes independence and dignity in our community by providing services to older adults and transportation for all. Indian River Community Foundation recently awarded SRA $42,000 to help fund a temperature-controlled Meals on Wheels delivery truck.

Approximately 56.2% of seniors have low access to healthy food in Indian River County. Limited income or resources to access or prepare food, lack of transportation, physical limitations, and health problems are some of the factors that contribute to food insecurity for seniors. Senior Resource Association increases access to healthy food and nutrition to thousands of seniors every year through their Meals on Wheels Program.

Meals on Wheels Programs:

  • Home-Delivered Meals Meals on Wheels’ dedicated volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to seniors’ doors – five days a week. For many seniors, the daily visit is their only opportunity for socialization. The program also provides a daily wellness check and a sense of security.
  • Emergency Meals on Wheels as a temporary solution for homebound seniors discharged from a healthcare facility within the last 30 days or whose caregiver has been briefly admitted to a healthcare facility.
  • Pet Meals on Wheels is proudly supported by Senior Resource Association because pet companionship provides many health benefits to our senior community. Volunteers deliver pet food for our Meals on Wheels clients’ pets when funding allows.

Indian River Community Foundation’s discretionary grantmaking is aligned with a vision of a more healthy, prosperous, and generous Indian River County community. Grantmaking priorities are informed by the findings of the most recent community needs assessment and the most current data and information collected on Indian River Indicators. Grants from the Community Enrichment fund are reviewed by a Grants Committee comprised of volunteers Suzanne Bertman, Pat Brier, Toni Hamner, Wanda Lincoln, Dawn Michael, and Angelia Perry.

IRCF is holding informational sessions for nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations serving Indian River County who are interested in applying for a competitive grant. If interested, please call 772.492.1407 or email Brooke Sauserman to reserve your spot. Please read our Guidelines before registering.
