New Leaders Elected to Community Foundation’s Board of Directors

Indian River Community Foundation recently elected five community leaders to join its board of directors and guide the organization in the upcoming year. John Corbett, Marybeth Cunningham, Jacob (Jake) Fojtik, Ellen Kendall, and Kenneth (Ken) Mindt will each serve a three-year term through June 30, 2028.

This new class of directors joins the Community Foundation at a critical moment in the organization’s 17-year history. The Community Foundation remains one of the fastest growing and most active community foundations in the country, distributing more than $22 million in grants last year. It also serves a county whose population ranks tenth out the country’s 3,144 counties for wealth disparity.

“We live in one of the most generous communities in the United States, and our growth reflects the trust our clients continue to place in us as a partner in their philanthropy” says Jeff Pickering, President and CEO. “With nearly half of our residents living either in poverty or one paycheck away from it; however, our board of directors is being called on to lead and support proven programs and other collaborations that can help those who need it most.”

Officers elected to continue or begin new terms include Katy Healy as chair, Anthony Guettler as vice chair, Will Schlitt as treasurer, and Angelia Perry as secretary. The remaining board of directors includes Suzanne Bertman, Pat Brier, Rennie Gibb, Toni Hamner, Allen Jones, Fran Laserson, Wanda Lincoln, Carla Meyer, Dawn Michael, and Mike Swan.

Indian River Community Foundation is a vibrant nonprofit enterprise with a powerfully simple mission of “Building a better community through donor-driven philanthropy.” Since 2008, the Community Foundation’s assets have grown to more than $115 million. Together with its clients, the Community Foundation has awarded more than $150 million in grants mostly to nonprofit charitable organizations located in Indian River County, Florida.
